Create experiences for learners to make positive, socially responsible contributions and exhibit empathetic behavior online that build relationships and community.I coordinate and facilitate a two year blended learning academy for educators in the county I support. I use discussion boards and accountable talk stems in the county adopted learning management system, Schoology, to create experiences for educators in the program to make positive, socially responsible contributions and exhibit empathetic behavior online that build relationships and community. The screenshot below shows how I use discussion boards to prompt the educator to use an accountable talk stem like TAG or another framework identified in the Google Slide Accountable Talk Frameworks slideshow hyperlinked in the prompt. In this way I use discussion boards and frameworks like SAY, SAFE, TAG, THINK, and RISE to engage students in ongoing dialogue online that builds relationships and community.

Establish a learning culture that promotes curiosity and critical examination of online resources and fosters digital literacy and media fluency. The Introduction to Media Literacy Education shows how I establish a learning culture that promotes curiosity and critical examination of online resources and fosters digital literacy and media fluency. In part 3 "Thinking Critically About Media Messages" I explain how I use three key questions developed by the Stanford History Group to promote curiosity and critical examination of online resources. I discuss the criteria I developed to prompt student thinking to scaffold the process for students. In part six "Creating Media Messages" I share the checklists and evaluation tools that I have implemented with success.

Mentor students in safe, legal and ethical practices with digital tools and the protection of intellectual rights and property.I use the slideshow below to mentor students in safe, legal and ethical practices with digital tools and the protection of intellectual rights and property. I begin with an introduction to copyright that helps students understand how copyright, fair use, Creative Commons, and the Public Domain differ. I use the embedded video in the slideshow to introduce students to Creative Commons Licenses. Through the video students not only learn how to interpret Creative Commons Licenses to respect the intellectual property of others, but also how to create Creative Commons licenses to protect their own work. I also model for students how I use copyright-free image websites like Pixabay and FreePik that provide image citations for me to ensure when I use the work of others I have permission and am doing so in a safe, legal, and ethical way.

Model and promote management of personal data and digital identity and protect student data privacy. In this webinar I model for educators how I manage personal data and digital identity to protect my students data and their privacy online. On Slide 13 I discuss the privacy policy of the county adopted learning management system-- Schoology. Students learn the importance of reading a website's privacy policy as it explains how a website can and can not use the personal information of its users. On slide 13 I model how to unpack a privacy policy.
